Website Information Management
I believe that communication is one of the biggest challenges we face today. There are more resources than ever to communicate but still many people are reluctant to share information freely. These walls have come down in some industries such at the technology industry but are still very much in place for construction, security, small businesses and government though they are improving every year. Starting from some of the first projects I ever ran as a foreman through today I strive to look for better ways to communicate. I use to believe that websites and launching the space shuttle had a lot of technical similarities. A few years ago I met Steve Williams, CEO of WirelessGuys who taught me how he uses websites to manage his projects. Since then I have worked to improve my communication skills in this area. Below are some websites that I have designed, built and maintain:
www.infrastructure-security.org - Designed to help distribute lessons we learned about security on some of the first and largest infrastructure security projects after 9/11.
www.dbrownmanagement.com - Site for my consulting business with a lot of resources that can be helpful for all businesses.
www.electricalemployment.com - I really have enjoyed my career in the electrical industry and love teaching. This is a work-in-progress that I'm designing to help people explore the possibilities the industry offers and help them develop the skills they need to get a job and keep it.
www.dbrownonline.com - The most interesting part of my career move into consulting has been codifying my thoughts and experiences. In an operating role in a company this is often hard to do because there are always "emergencies & opportunities" but now I have structured my schedule with plenty of time to read, learn and clarify those experiences. This website is a blog that can best be described as "my brain."
www.royalelect.com/career/careers.htm - Designed to help Royal Electric's recruiting efforts. Site consistently pulls in leads for electricians looking for work and was touted by an HR consultant to the Dodge Group as "the way an employment website should work."
Recent Public Events

ISC West: The International Security Conference in Las Vegas in April, 2005. We have been doing a presentation on Infrastructure Security and building a better RFP for public works projects for the last several years. The handouts below are from the ISC East show in November that we did in New York.
Press
Below are a selection of articles about a couple of projects I have put together. I have developed some good strategies for dealing with press by partnering with vendors and other project contractors/personnel to share in costs and resources associated with building the relationships with reporters. I utilized this strategy with a personal training business and think that small and medium sized construction companies have a lot of un-tapped press potential.
